A Tiffin man who got into an argument with his wife has been arrested after things allegedly turned violent.

According to the arrest report, 44-year-old Mitchell Smith of Renee Lane was very intoxicated when he got into an argument with his spouse Monday afternoon. Things reportedly turned physical, and he is accused of standing over the woman while she was sitting down, and said “I will go to jail anyways,” throwing many punches that struck her in the face.

The woman’s two sons stepped in and reportedly fought off Smith, protecting their mother. He allegedly bit the hand of one of the sons during the altercation, and reportedly said he was going to kill them all.

A check of court records indicates that Smith has several prior convictions for domestic abuse assault.

The man was taken into custody and faces 3 counts of  Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent offense and three counts of First Degree Harassment. He could be sentenced to up to 21 years in prison if convicted on all charges. The charges are also a violation of his probation on Stalking and Burglary charges, and the Department of Corrections issued a detention order request on Tuesday, saying that Smith poses a serious safety risk to the victims.
