Iowa City Police have arrested a panhandling transient who they say was armed with a gun and a knife.

Officers received a complaint about the panhandler at the top of the southbound Highway 218 offramp to Highway 1 just before 1:45 Thursday afternoon. The suspect, 34-year-old Aaron Neuzil, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear at a July court date on a 5th Degree Theft charge. Police say they found two containers of marijuana, a glass pipe with marijuana residue, a loaded Taurus .380 handgun and an eight-inch knife in a sheath on Neuzil’s person.

Neuzil is charged with Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
