An Iowa City man has been taken into custody after incidents involving three fraudulent checks from a Coralville hotel.

Police say that 27-year-old Frank Scott of South Johnson Street allegedly deposited a check from a mobile device on September 14th in the amount of $600 for overtime from the Staybridge Suites on East Second Avenue in Coralville. Staff advised that they did not issue Scott a check, but it was successfully deposited into his account.

Scott then reportedly attempted to deposit two more checks from Staybridge; one on October 26th for $850 and another on November 22nd for $2500.  Staff at the hotel again told authorities in both instances, they did not authorize a check.

Scott allegedly admitted to depositing the September 14th check; a warrant for his arrest was issued on December 2nd. He was booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday night.

Scott faces a charge of Forgery and 4th degree Theft for the September incident and two additional counts of Forgery for the October and November incidents. If convicted on all charges, Scott could be sentenced to up to sixteen years in prison.
