A Shelter House resident has been arrested after being accused of hitting two University of Iowa employees for no reason.

The Gazette reports 56-year-old Douglas Johnson was arrested at 9:55am Monday after the incident at the UI Seamons Center on Capitol Street, home of the College of Engineering. The two victims were hit in the back of the head by Johnson, according to the criminal complaint. He was released at 7:30-pm after being charged with two counts of simple assault.  Hours later, Johnson was stopped just after 2:30 am. He was driving a Ford van and accused of reckless driving, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, driving without a license and failing to provide insurance.

The newspaper says HR Director Cathy Koebrick at the College of Engineering sent an email to staff advising that there was no further threat to them, and confirmed that the two people assaulted Monday did not know Johnson. She added that the incident was unsettling and disturbing for the entire college community.
