The Iowa City City Council has decided to give the Truth and Reconciliation Commission more time to complete its work, and advised them to put out another request for a facilitator to support their work.
The original call for applications was only answered by one firm, Kerns & West. The group is highly respected around the country for its work with TRC’s, and had the support of the Iowa City commission members and some council members who held preliminary discussions with them.
However, concerns that the out-of-state company wouldn’t be able to fully grasp the issues affecting Iowa City led the council to vote down the TRC’s choice.
The Daily Iowan reports that during Tuesday’s work session, many councilors expressed their reluctance to support an out-of-state facilitator. Truth and Reconciliation Commission members were present at the work session but were not involved in the discussion.
