A Coralville man has been arrested after allegedly leading police on a chase through eastern Iowa City.

Iowa City Police say just after 5:45 Friday night an officer tried to stop a 2009 Chevy Malibu on the 2300 block of Muscatine Avenue for having an expired registration. When the officer activated his lights and siren, the car allegedly took off at more than 25 miles per hour over the speed limit.

Police say the driver, later identified as 21-year-old Kyle Williams of 10th Street Place, then parked the vehicle and fled on foot. Williams later called 9-1-1, saying he wanted to talk to officers. He was located and arrested for Eluding. After his arrest, Williams allegedly admitted to fleeing because he was driving with a barred license and to calling 9-1-1 without a proper emergency.

Williams was additionally charged with Driving While Barred, Driving While Suspended, and Improper Use of 9-1-1. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over four years in prison.
