A Johnson County Supervisor sent out a Thanksgiving night tweet blasting a Republican state legislator who wants to prosecute school officials for allowing access to what he believes are “obscene” books.
Senate President Jake Chapman of Adel has specifically targeted books with LGBTQ+ themes and specific books about growing up in a minority household. After some parents in central Iowa school districts raised issues about such materials being made available to students, Chapman said he’s drafting legislation that would allow school employees who allow children access to books that are deemed “obscene” to be charged with a felony.
That drew the ire of Johnson County Supervisor Jon Green of Lone Tree, who tweeted Thursday night, “”My statement on Sen. Chapman is he’s a f—ing idiot and it’s a poor reflection upon Iowa he and his maggot-addled brain (apologies to maggots) got elected.”
In the replies, Green added “He’s talking out his ass.”
As of 5am Friday morning the tweet had 218 likes and 26 retweets, and Chapman had yet to comment.
