Iowa City Police say a Coralville woman claimed she would have shot up a man’s car if the bullets in her gun hadn’t jammed.
27-year-old Mercedes Hendrix of 6th Avenue was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 7am Wednesday. Police say Hendrix is seen on security video at the Town & Campus Apartment on Arthur Street just before 11:30am on October 17th trying to gain access to an apartment through the patio door. When she was unsuccessful, she allegedly keyed her victim’s car, causing over $750 in damage. Hendrix also allegedly called the man 20-30 times and made several threats about shooting out his car windows. Police say at one point she said she would have shot the windows out if the bullets to her gun hadn’t jammed.
Hendrix is charged with 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief and 3rd Degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, she faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
