An underage Iowa man carrying his food after a reported evening of drinking was arrested after stumbling in front of a squad car.

Police say 19-year-old Jhett Williams of Earlham was in front of the old Mill bar and restaurant on Burlington Street just after 1:15 am Saturday when he stumbled in front of an Iowa City Police squad car as it was traveling westbound on Burlington. The officer activated his lights and told Williams to stop. Instead, he allegedly looked at the officer, threw his food on the ground and started running. Williams was caught after a brief foot chase.

The man reportedly had the odor of ingested alcohol. Williams refused chemical testing, and allegedly admitted to drinking at the bars downtown.  A post-arrest search turned up an authentic ID of another person.

Williams was charged with Possession of ID, Public Intoxication and Interference with Official Acts. If convicted, he faces up to fourteen months in jail.
