Johnson County Board of Supervisors Chair Pat Heiden will not seek reelection when she completes her term at the end of 2022.
The Press-Citizen reports that Heiden told the paper that she wants to spend more time with her family. She added that she worked hard to get on the Board and is grateful for the opportunity to serve. However, she admitted that if she was younger, she’d be running for reelection.
Heiden has overseen the county’s response to the COVID 19 pandemic and how to distribute American Rescue Plan Act funds. She admitted to the Press-Citizen that the last year has been difficult given the increased division that has been demonstrated during public comment at the board meetings.
Due to the bylaws of the County, the chair position rotates annually. Royceann Porter will take over as chair in 2022. Heiden plans to serve out the remaining year on the Board.
