An Iowa City man was arrested Thursday night after a traffic stop turned up marijuana and a loaded firearm.

According to police, 21-year-old Robert Redmond of Westwinds Drive was observed going 42 miles an hour in a 25 mile-an-hour zone around 10:50 pm in the area of 1st Avenue and Bradford Street. Upon contact, the vehicle reportedly had the strong odor of fresh marijuana. Redmond allegedly admitted to having 2 grams of marijuana on him, and gave it to the officer.

A probable cause search of Redmond’s vehicle reportedly turned up a half-smoked marijuana cigar and a Glock 19 firearm in the man’s satchel. The Glock was loaded with 14 rounds.

Redmond was charged with 1st offense Marijuana Possession and Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to two years.
