A walkout protest headed by the Iowa City Schools Black Student Union is planned for this afternoon.
In a social media post from the Iowa Freedom Riders, who are partnering with the students, the walkout is scheduled to start at 3pm with students meeting up at the Pentacrest at 3:30.
The walkout is in response to recent and ongoing issues of discrimination in the Iowa City Schools.
Students will have an opportunity to share testimonials, and the group says they’ll have water, tables, security and medical personnel on hand should they be needed. Attendees are encouraged to mask up when on site.
