Iowa City police have arrested a second woman wanted in connection with an alleged burglary and assault in October.
Police say the initial incident occurred on October 4th around 9:30pm at the Town and Campus Apartments on Arthur Street. The victim reported that two females broke into her apartment and assaulted her and her uncle. The victim complained of pain and redness on her arm, and the uncle reportedly was punched in the face and had swelling around his left eye. The door suffered damage and it was estimated it would cost $350 to replace and install a new one.
On Monday, 22-year-old Divia Greer of Crosspark Avenue was taken into custody on a warrant stemming from the incident. She was known to witnesses by her street name DaDa, which an officer knew through previous investigations. Her identity was confirmed by booking photos, and surveillance video shows Greer kicking in the apartment door.
During follow up interviews, Greer allegedly confirmed that she was the one in the video and was there to confront the victim regarding her accomplice’s purse.
The accomplice was identified as 18-year-old Rachel Livio Kabedi of Lower West Branch Road. She reportedly left her purse behind, and police found a paystub with her name on it along with a baggie of marijuana. The victim described Livio Kabedi’s clothing, which matched what she was wearing on surveillance video of the incident. She was shown a picture from Livio Kabedi’s social media account and confirmed that she was the one who assaulted her.
She was arrested on October 21st after she was found in a vehicle stopped for a simple traffic violation. Livio Kabedi reportedly gave police a false name, but was positively identified by another officer.
The two face a number of charges, including 1st degree Burglary, 4th degree Criminal mischief, and two counts of Assault causing Bodily Injury. Livio Kabedi also faces charges of Marijuana possession and providing False ID information.
Greer could be sentenced to up to 28 years in prison if convicted; Livio Kabedi’s charges carry another 13 months should she be convicted on all counts.
