Rural Johnson County accident results in death UPDATE

The Iowa State Patrol has released the names of the individuals involved in a two-car accident on Highway 1 Monday evening that resulted in a fatality.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a 2003 Chevy Malibu driven by 68-year-old Larry Hanus of Solon was traveling northbound near the intersection with Fox Lane north of I80 at approximately 6:10 pm when a deer ran into its path and was struck. The Malibu then crossed the center line and hit a 1993 Pontiac Bonneville driven by 67-year-old Michael Bartlett, also of Solon, head on.

Bartlett was pronounced dead at the scene; Hanus was injured and transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics by Johnson County paramedics. His condition hasn’t been released.

The accident remains under investigation by the State Patrol.
