Mary Mascher says she will not seek reelection to Iowa House

State Representative Mary Mascher of Iowa City announced Monday that she will not seek re-election to the Iowa House after serving 14 terms there.

In a release from Iowa House Democrats, Mascher thanked the people of Johnson County for their support and called it an honor to represent people in Iowa City, University Heights and Hills.

Mascher is a lifelong Iowa City area resident who grew up on a century farm in Johnson County and worked as a teacher and counselor in the Iowa City School District for 33 years. In her current legislative life, she serves on the Transportation, Infrastructure and Capitals Appropriations Subcommittee, International Relations Committee, Administration and Rules, Human Resources, Education, and is the Ranking Member of the House State Government Committee. In addition to her legislative committees Rep. Mascher serves on the Early Childhood Iowa State Board and the Investment Board of the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS).

Mascher plans to stay active in local party politics.
