Iowa City Police say an allegedly intoxicated driver was found with his pants around his ankles after running over several traffic signs.

Officers were called to the 600 block of Scott Boulevard just after 10pm Saturday for a 2008 Dodge Charger that had run over a median and several traffic signs, then drove away while leaking fluid.  The car died a short time later, and the driver fled the scene.

A man identified as the driver was found near the corner of Scott Boulevard and Court Street around 11pm with his pants around his ankles. He was identified as 35-year-old Robert Robinson of 20th Street in Coralville.  Police say Robinson admitted to driving the vehicle and hitting the signs. He allegedly had trouble standing, showed multiple signs of intoxication and refused breath testing. A small baggie of marijuana was found inside the car, and he had a driving status of barred.

Investigators determined the vehicle had just been registered to a woman with whom Robinson has a no-contact order. The woman was found at the scene of the disabled vehicle and told police Robinson had been driving her car and never arrived to pick her up from work. When Robinson was found, he was allegedly on the phone with a contact listed as “Honey”. The phone was seized as evidence.

Robinson is charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd or Subsequent Offense, Driving While Barred, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and violating a no-contact order. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of eight years in prison.
