A one-vehicle accident near Oxford has led to an Iowa City man’s arrest.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to an accident scene at the intersection of 250th Street and Echo Avenue, north of F.W. Kent Park, just after 10pm Tuesday. The 2017 GMC left the scene, but was located a short distance away. Investigators say the driver, identified as 29-year-old Mark Plath of Harmony Lane, showed signs of intoxication and refused breath testing.  Arrest records indicate he admitted to drinking, was unsteady on his feet and was “overly emotional”. He also allegedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests.

Plath was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated – 3rd or Subsequent Offense. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
