Iowa City Police make arrest in robbery case where gun was stolen

Iowa City Police have arrested a suspect in a strong-arm robbery at a downtown convenience store where the victim had a gun stolen.

22-year-old Lewis Robinson III of 1st Avenue in Cedar Rapids was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 5:15 Friday night. Police say Robinson and an accomplice assaulted the alleged victim outside the East Burlington Street Kum & Go around 2:15am on October 3rd. The pair allegedly took the man’s gun before fleeing.

The incident was caught on surveillance video.

The alleged victim said he knew Robinson from previous interactions.  Robinson reportedly admitted to being at the scene.

Robinson is charged with 2nd Degree Robbery and Trafficking in Stolen Weapons. If convicted on both charges, he faces a maximum of 30 years in prison.
