Iowa City Police say a convenience store clerk was forced to lock the business down to protect the victim in a no-contact order.

According to arrest records, 28-year-old Laron Leonard left his residence at the Eden Apartments on Muscatine Avenue just after 3:15am on October 22nd and followed the victim down the sidewalk to the nearby Kum & Go. Leonard was allegedly smiling as he followed her.

The woman told the clerk she feared for her life and asked the clerk to lock the doors. Leonard allegedly paced outside the locked doors before leaving the scene.

Leonard was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 11:15 Thursday morning and charged with a no-contact order violation. Court records indicate he was convicted on a similar violation in September.

Leonard was also wanted for skipping a hearing in a previous domestic abuse case.
