An Iowa City man who has been in custody for nearly two years on a sexual abuse charge was released earlier this month after pleading guilty to a lesser charge.
Police charged then 28-year-old Sidney McVay of Sandusky Drive back in November 2019 with 2nd degree sexual abuse. He allegedly was discovered in a locked room with a three-year-old in a Tiffin residence by the child’s mother in September 2018. The child was found with its pull-up removed, and subsequent testing reportedly discovered DNA from McVay on the victim’s anal region. McVay admitted only to moistening his thumb to clean a smudge of lint from the child’s anal region after a bath.
On October 8th, Judge Andrew Chappell dismissed the sexual abuse charge against McVay after he entered a written guilty plea to child endangerment. Chappell released McVay from custody for time served and suspended his $625 fine.
A no-contact order was ordered to remain in effect for four years from date of sentencing.
