Cedar Rapids Police have provided an update on their investigation into a shooting October 1st at the Ramada by Wyndham hotel on 33rd Avenue Southwest.

Police were called there at around 10:30 on reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found three people injured, one of them seriously. They were taken to hospitals for treatment. Another three people, including a 13-year-old boy, had already been taken to hospitals before police arrived.

Initially, police chief Wayne Jerman said none of the witnesses or victims were cooperating with their investigation. The Gazette now reports that police have talked with the 13-year-old along with several other victims and witnesses. They’re also reviewing all available surveillance video as part of their ongoing investigation.

The conditions of the victims have not been shared due to privacy laws.

The shooter, or shooters, could face charges of going armed with intent and attempted murder. Chief Jerman said the incident is similar to other gun violence in the city that begins with a disagreement and escalates. He called it “senseless,” and said it cannot continue.
