An Iowa City man was jailed Monday afternoon after a tire iron he threw at a woman fractured her skull.

Police were called to the Villa Garden Apartments on Cross Park Avenue at approximately 2:30 pm. The woman involved in the altercation reportedly confronted 28-year-old Anton Henderson over money that she was missing. She threatened to spit on him, and Henderson allegedly told her, “I will hit you with this tire iron.”

A small skirmish ensued, where she slapped Henderson in the chest, he punched her arm, and she punched him back before walking away. When she was approximately about five feet away from Henderson, he reportedly threw the tire iron at the woman, striking her in the head.

She began to bleed profusely and was taken to Mercy ER. Staff there determined that the woman needed to be transferred to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics because she would need surgery to repair a skull fracture.

Henderson was located and allegedly admitted to throwing the tire iron at the woman. He was arrested and charged with willful injury causing serious injury, and second degree harassment. If convicted on both counts, Henderson could be sentenced to up to 11 years in prison.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties.
