A Coralville man faces several charges after allegedly assaulting a woman at his Iowa Lodge residence.
Police were called to the complex just before 1 am Tuesday on reports of a domestic disturbance. 36-year-old Deshon Holmes reportedly punched his live-in girlfriend several times in the arm and chest area. When the woman tried to leave, Holmes allegedly strangled the woman.
Upon arrival, officers were told by the woman to come into the residence, but Holmes reportedly stopped them from unlocking the dead bolt, and wouldn’t allow the woman to open the door for police.
A check of records showed Holmes with four prior convictions for domestic assault, and an active no-contact order was in place between him and the woman.
Holmes was arrested and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault impeding Airflow, Contempt of the No Contact Order, Interference with Official Acts, False Imprisonment, and Domestic Abuse Assault 3rd or subsequent. If convicted on all counts, Holmes could be sentenced to over eight years in prison.
