Iowa City extends mask mandate

City release/edit
09/30/21

Iowa City Mayor Bruce Teague has indefinitely extended the mask order that was originally put into place Aug. 19th due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The extended order requires that every person in the City of Iowa City must wear a face covering while in a public place when social distancing is not possible.

The extension order is effective immediately  until the order is rescinded.

Every person in the City of Iowa City must wear a face covering that covers their nose and mouth when in a public place, as opposed to being in one’s place of residence, when one cannot stay six (6) feet away from others.

The mandate includes any indoor public settings, like grocery stores, Pharmacies, retail stores, restaurants and bars, public school buildings and government buildings.

The mandate specifically includes University of Iowa academic buildings and business offices.
