The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will be discussing a possible new location for the state volleyball tournament at their Board of Directors meeting in November.

The tournament has been held in Cedar Rapids at the now-called Alliant Energy Powerhouse for 31 years, but the board is considering the new Xtream Arena in Coralville.

The current ten-year agreement to host the tournament in Cedar Rapids expires after this year’s tournament. Jean Berger, the executive director for the IGHSAU, told the newspaper that it’s basically a question of either staying in Cedar Rapids or going to Coralville.

Coralville’s facility seats over  5100 and has warm up courts available. The City of Cedar Rapids has already submitted a proposal with the Alliant Powerhouse and its neighboring partners, which executive director Michael Silva called “aggressive.”

At stake is an estimated $2 million in consumer spending during the tournament, which will be held November 1st through the 4th.
