Area transient arrested after allegedly threatening to shoot victims

An area transient has been arrested after allegedly brandishing a handgun and threatening to shoot people.

Police say the incident occurred at approximately 11:30pm Tuesday in the 2400 block of Muscatine Avenue. 19-year-old Malik Yelvington allegedly threatened to shoot an undisclosed number of victims. He then reportedly proceeded to pull a black handgun out of his waistband and pointed it at the victims.

Yelvington fled the scene when one of the victims threatened to call the police. He was not located that night, but was apprehended and booked into the Johnson County Jail Wednesday night. Yelvington’s been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon and 1st degree Harassment. If convicted on both charges, he could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison.
