A North Liberty man who was found unresponsive in a gutter was arrested later after an alleged assault.
Police say the incident occurred at around 6:45 am Saturday in the 1800 block of North Ridge Court. Officers were called to the scene for a male who was not responsive in the roadway. 33-year-old Matthew Roland of Winchester Lane was found laying in the gutter. He reportedly had vomited on himself and was highly intoxicated.
A few minutes later, officers were told that Roland was a suspect in an assault. The victim stated that she and Roland got into an argument and he began to attack her and her friend. The woman suffered possible broken ribs and an injury to her mouth, and she also stated that Roland put his hands around her neck and choked her for several seconds.
Roland was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault Impeding Airflow and 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault. If convicted, he faces up to 4 years in prison. A no-contact order was requested between the parties.
