An Iowa City man was charged with using a victim’s credit card to run up over $1000 in charges earlier this month.
According to the criminal complaint, 29-year-old Michael Baker of Aster Avenue allegedly used the card 20 times between September 1st and September 15th without the victim’s permission. The total charges over that period are reported to be $1087.83.
The victim told officers that Baker never had permission to use the card or the card number. When officers contacted him, he allegedly stated that he knew what police were talking about, but claimed that the victim made those purchases for him.
An arrest warrant was issued on September 23rd, and he was served with the warrant Sunday. Baker has been charged with 3rd degree Theft and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted on both counts, he could be sentenced to a maximum four years in prison.
