A North Liberty man was taken into custody after allegedly stealing a Jeep.

Police say they found the vehicle in the possession of 19-year-old Malik Yelvington of Goose Lake Circle at the intersection of 2nd Street and 9th Avenue in Coralville at around 12:15pm Tuesday.

The Jeep had been reported stolen earlier in the day, and the owner claimed not to know Yelvington. He allegedly told police that he was aware the vehicle didn’t belong to him.

Yelvington was charged with 1st degree Theft, a Class C Felony punishable by a prison sentence of up to ten years if convicted.
