Former University of Iowa football players, accusing the program of racial discrimination and harassment, say the U of I has been giving them “negligible” documents requested during discovery.
The Gazette reports that the athletes and their attorneys have been trying to schedule a conference with the defendants to resolve the disputes regarding the school’s discovery responses. They accuse the school of providing a negligible number of documents that contained little substantive content.
The plaintiffs are asking a judge to extend today’s deadline to submit expert names and reports. They say they need more time to resolve disputes, get the materials they requested, and have their experts review them and prepare reports on their findings.
The plaintiffs in the amended lawsuit include Akrum Wadley, Johnathan Parker, Marcel Joly, Aaron Mends, Darian Cooper, Brandon Simon and Javon Foy. They have been waiting to hold depositions until the football team’s bye week next month. Defendants include Kirk and Brian Ferentz, Chris Doyle, the U of I and the state Board of Regents.
The next scheduled status conference is October 19th. The Hawks are off that week.
