The University of Iowa moves up to 33rd in the national rankings of public universities, according to the latest US News and World Report publication.
The Iowa Now website says that the rankings are based on rates of graduation and retention, assessment by academic peers, faculty resources, overall financial resources, admission scores, high school class standing, and alumni giving.
The latest rankings show Iowa’s writing program as the best in the country among public universities, and the nursing program is cracks the top ten this year.
The writing program has always been world-renown because of the Writer’s Workshop and the Nonfiction Writing Program. The UI is the only public institution to make US News and World Report’s list.
The nursing ranking is for the undergraduate program, although several of the college’s graduate programs also rank among the best in the country.
Overall, the University of Iowa ranks 83rd among all universities, public and private. That’s up from last year’s 88th spot.
