A Hills man faces OWI and weapons charges after allegedly going into a ditch on Highway 218 Saturday night.

Arrest reports indicate that 29-year-old Michael Figueroa of East Main Street was called in as a reckless driver before midnight, and was found in a ditch on Highway 218 at approximately 11:51 pm. Police say Figueroa was sitting in the driver’s seat, semi-conscious with the engine on and his foot on the accelerator.

While field sobriety tests were being administered, Figueroa allegedly admitted to having a firearm in the vehicle. A post arrest Datamaster was taken, and he blew a .186 blood-alcohol reading. A subsequent search turned up a 10mm Rock Island Armory pistol between the driver’s seat and center console of Figueroa’s vehicle.

He’s been charged with 2nd offense OWI, possession of a dangerous weapon while intoxicated, and persons ineligible to carry dangerous weapons. If convicted on all counts, Figueroa could be sentenced to up to four years in prison.
