A Cedar Rapids man was taken into custody after he allegedly eluded a sheriff’s deputy and crashed into a corn field.
Police say 21-year-old Zachary Peterson of Saint Olaf Street Southwest was northbound on Interstate 380 Saturday at about 12:40 am when a traffic stop was attempted. He reportedly attempted to outrun the officer, hitting speeds in excess of 130 miles per hour before he drove into a cornfield and fled on foot.
Peterson was located with help from a K9 officer, and a check of the vehicle turned up a bag of marijuana in plain view.
Peterson was taken into custody and initially charged with Eluding, a Class D Felony punishable by a prison term of up to five years if convicted.
