An alleged attack on paramedics has led to an Iowa City woman’s arrest.

Iowa City Police and EMT’s were called to an address on Wayne Avenue just before 1am on August 30th for a suicidal subject.  A woman identified as 22-year-old Ajahnay Allen was taken into custody for an involuntary committal. As police and paramedics tried to take her to the hospital, Allen allegedly kicked a member of the Johnson County Ambulance Service in the abdomen and spit in another’s face. Police say a short time later she kicked another paramedic in the shoulder.

While being transported to the hospital, Allen reportedly admitted to kicking the EMT’s on purpose. Both paramedics told police they wished to pursue charges.

Allen was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 11:45 Thursday night and charged with two counts of Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations. If convicted, she faces a maximum of two years in jail.

Court records show Allen was also wanted for failing to appear at an arraignment on an Operating While Intoxicated charge.
