Muscatine woman charged after striking boyfriend at Coralville convenience store

A Muscatine woman has been taken into custody after a Labor Day argument at a Coralville convenience store with her live-in boyfriend turned physical.

Police say just after  6 am, 22-year-old Alexandria Covarrubias and the man were at the Commerce Drive Casey’s having a verbal argument when she allegedly grabbed the man’s phone. She then hit her boyfriend in the mouth with an open hand a couple of times.

The man was observed with scratch marks on both sides of his face, and Covarrubias allegedly admitted to hitting her boyfriend. He said he pushed her off, causing her to suffer a bloody nose.

The two have been in an intimate relationship for about two months.

Covarrubias was taken into custody and charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing injury, a serious misdemeanor. Her boyfriend requested a no-contact order.
