An Iowa City woman wanted on a warrant stemming from an attempted break-in at a Coralville apartment building last month has been arrested.

Police say 40-year-old Tracy Jo Turner of Iowa Avenue entered an apartment building on the 2200 block of 9th Avenue August 16th that required a code to enter. Officers reportedly located fresh pry marks on the door frame and door.  The victim reported to officers that when she exited her apartment, she saw Turner and recognized her as her grandfather’s girlfriend.  Her grandfather was reportedly also there, and they both were holding crowbars.

The woman then began to approach her grandfather to confront him, and while doing so Turner allegedly took a swing at the woman’s right leg with the crowbar but did not connect.  The victim told officers she was more concerned about her grandfather attacking her. The two then left the building.

The woman informed an officer that she believed the two came to the apartment to recover his puppies, who had recently been seized by family members due to abandonment and neglect.

A warrant was issued for Turner’s arrest; she was booked at the Johnson County Jail Thursday morning. She faces charges of Assault and Possession of Burglar’s Tools and could be sentenced to over two years in jail if convicted.
