Iowa City Police have made a second arrest relating to an Iowa City parking ramp riot and a shooting on Scott Boulevard.
22-year-old Narada Poole of Stanwyk Drive was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 9pm Tuesday. Police say Poole and 21-year-old Marquel Poole were part of an assault on two individuals at the Capitol Street parking ramp on June 5th. The two were reportedly assaulted by 5-6 individuals, The Pooles being among them. They were identified by surveillance video.
Narada Poole is also accused of lying in order to purchasing four guns from Scheels in Coralville between April 2nd and August 9th. On July 27th, search warrants were executed on residences associated with Poole. They turned up evidence that Poole was a user of illegal drugs…something he claimed he was not when filling out the required paperwork to purchase the firearms. Marijuana and drug paraphernalia tied to Poole were allegedly found when officers served a search warrant on a residence on Peterson Street.
Poole is charged with four counts of Giving False Information to Purchase a Weapon and one count each of Participating in a Riot, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 23 years in prison.
Iowa City Police say the Pooles were also involved in a shooting on July 18th on the 500 Block of S. Scott Boulevard. Investigators found over 50 shell casings indicating multiple weapons were fired. Police located damage to vehicles and buildings, but no injuries were reported.
Marquel Poole was taken into custody just before midnight Monday and faces charges of Participating in a Riot, two counts of Dominion or Control of a Firearm as a Felon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to over 13 years in prison.
