An online petition calling for the abolishment of the University of Iowa fraternity Phi Gamma Delta, commonly known as FIJI, has reached nearly 50,000 signatures.

The Daily Iowan reports that members of the frat are facing allegations from a September 5th, 2020 incident in which the petition alleges a sophomore girl was drugged, raped, videotaped and photographed, and left her with no memory of what they had done to her.

The petition goes on to say that no one in the fraternity said anything to stop the incident, and members were reportedly told to delete any proof. The petition states that a judge told the woman that the case will not be taken to court despite the evidence.

The DI also says that the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s FIJI chapter was suspended August 25th while the university investigates an alleged sexual assault. Students protested in front of the FIJI house there, calling for the chapter to be abolished.

A protest is planned for tonight in front of the UI Chapter house on the west side of campus starting at 8 pm.

A social media post from the FIJI group said that sexual misconduct is treated with a zero-tolerance policy, and any individuals who demonstrate less than exemplary conduct “have and will be expelled.”

The petition calls for the entire fraternity to be abolished nationwide. A link to the document is available here:
