A Cedar Rapids man has been taken into custody after allegedly found driving while intoxicated and while in possession of a firearm.
Police stopped 21-year-old Robert Perez of Leisure Boulevard Northeast at around 12:15 am Friday for a traffic violation. He reportedly had been out drinking with friends and showed several signs of intoxication. After failing field sobriety tests, he gave a PBT reading of .111 percent and a subsequent Datamaster reading of .085 percent.
During the interaction, Perez allegedly admitted to be in possession of a handgun belonging to his friend.
He was taken into custody and charged with his first OWI and for being in possession of a firearm while intoxicated. Perez faces up to two years in jail if convicted on both counts.
