Iowa City Police have identified the individual who discharged his weapon during a large fight downtown on April 4th.

In a release from the Department, they report that at approximately 2 am, there was a large fight outside of Pints on South Clinton Street involving approximately 50 people. 23-year-old Dupree Thompson of Penn Oaks Drive was driving in front of the bar when he slowed down , pulled into the alley just north of the establishment and parked. He then reportedly exited the vehicle and approached the crowd, carrying a handgun with an extended magazine in his right hand.

Two individuals allegedly tried to get Thompson away from the crowd, but he eventually made his way to the front of the parked vehicle and reportedly fired a single round into the air, sending the crowd running.  Thompson then fled the scene in his vehicle.

The incident was captured on cell phone and surveillance video in the area, and officers found a spent shell casing from a 9mm handgun. Thompson is also seen on his apartment building’s surveillance video 30 minutes after the incident, returning to the apartment while carrying a handgun with an extended magazine.

Thompson has been charged with Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, Carrying Weapons, and Reckless Use of a Firearm. He was arrested in Black Hawk County, where he’s currently being held on unrelated charges. For the April 4th incident in Iowa City, he could be sentenced to over 7 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
