An Iowa City man faces up to 40 years in prison for allegedly possessing child pornography.
45-year-old Christopher Michael Wilson has been formally charged with one count each of receiving child pornography and possession of child pornography.
Last Wednesday, Iowa City Police sent out a notification that the FBI was conducting a tactical operation in the 400 block of North Lucas Street . The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that agents used a tactical vehicle to break through the side of Wilson’s house. An FBI spokesperson declined to provide further information about why the vehicle was used.
Court records indicate that Wilson was arrested in 2010 and charged with two counts of third degree sexual abuse, but was acquitted in a 2012 trial.
The notification was sent out as part of city policy. Police Captain Denise Brotherton said notices are sent out when a special response team is deployed because community leaders voiced concerns last year about how those operations could be traumatizing to people in the neighborhood who witness these types of actions. The notification included information on resources for those who experienced any trauma due to the operation.
Wilson remains in custody and has a detention hearing today in Davenport.
