Iowa City Police arrested an armed subject on the Ped Mall late Saturday night.
According to arrest records, officers observed 20-year-old Trayvon Stacy of Burlington drinking from an open container of alcohol just after 11:30pm in front of Brothers on the 100 block of East College Street. He was asked for his ID, but allegedly fled while speaking with police. He was quickly captured, but not before one officer reportedly suffered a minor injury.
Stacy allegedly tried to pull away multiple times when being escorted to a squad car. Police say a loaded firearm with the serial number shaved off was found in Stacy’s backpack, and a small amount of marijuana was found on his person. He also allegedly showed signs of intoxication and admitted to feeling “tipsy” and drinking earlier in the night. He claimed someone gave him the backpack, but he didn’t know who it was.
Stacy is charged with Carrying a Weapon While Intoxicated, Carrying Weapons, Interference with Official Acts While Carrying a Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Alcohol Under the Legal Age, and Public Intoxication. If convicted on all charges, Stacy faces a maximum of over eight years in prison.
