Kalona man charged with writing over $2,000 in bad checks to Menard’s

A Kalona man faces charges that he wrote over $2,000 worth of bad checks to Menard’s.

28-year-old Lucas Ray of 11^th Street was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 6:15 Thursday night. Iowa City Police say Ray wrote six different checks totaling $2,097.02 to the Iowa City Menard’s store on Naples Avenue between April 30^th and May 4^th.

Police say Ray did not have sufficient funds in his bank account to cover the checks. He’s charged with 2^nd Degree Theft, a Class D felony punishable by a maximum of five years in prison.
