Transient accused of stealing credit card, using it to shop at same location

A transient faces charges that he stole a credit card from a car in a business parking lot, then used it to go on a shopping spree at the same business.

41-year-old Douglas McCurn is accused of entering an unlocked vehicle parked at Ace Hardware on North Dodge Street just after 5:15pm on July 31st. He and a co-defendant then allegedly went inside the store, selected 17 items, and used the credit card to pay for them. The total value of the items was $950.58.

Both incidents were caught on security video. McCurn was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 9:15 Tuesday morning and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card, 3rd Degree Theft and Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
