1 killed, 1 injured in house fire near Swisher

One person was killed and another injured in a house fire near Swisher.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, emergency responders were called to a residential fire at 1726 Derby Avenue just after 5:15 Wednesday morning. The fire was contained to the second story of the home and extinguished by firefighters from Swisher, North Liberty, Solon and Fairfax.

A Wednesday night post on the Facebook page of the Jefferson Monroe Township Fire Department indicates two people were rescued from the fire and treated at the scene. One person died, and another was transported to a local hospital.

The sheriff’s office confirms 59-year-old Linda Ludvicek was pronounced dead at the scene. A cause of death has not yet been released.

38-year-old Jeremy Ludvicek was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. His condition is unknown.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
