A Coralville man was arrested Sunday night after allegedly splashing chemicals on a co-worker who rejected his advances.

The incident occurred at Club Car Wash on 2nd Street at approximately 7 pm. According to the arrest report, the victim was working with 31-year-old Randy Martinez Mendez of Holiday Road. He allegedly made the victim uncomfortable throughout the work day with both words and physical touching.

After telling Martinez Mendez no, the victim also denied his request for a hug. The victim placed their arm up to prevent Martinez Mendez from touching them. He then reportedly reacted by splashing chemicals on the victim’s face, causing a chemical burn reaction. The victim had to go to the hospital to be treated.

Martinez Mendez has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a serious misdemeanor. He faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
