A recent City High graduate faces charges that he stabbed another man in the abdomen at an Iowa City apartment complex.

According to arrest records, two people were fighting with each other at The Quarters on Highway 6 East just after 9:15pm on June 12th when 17-year-old Lazaro Bwayo armed himself with a knife and stabbed one of the subjects in the abdomen. The victim required immediate surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Police say the victim faced a “substantial risk of death”.

Surveillance video recorded the incident. Bwayo was arrested Wednesday and charged with Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of ten years in prison.

Bwayo has no known address, but the Iowa City Community School District web site lists him as a 2021 graduate of City High.
