An Iowa City man faces charges that he attacked a woman with a golf club and a flower pot.

Iowa City Police were called to the Broadway Street Casey’s just before 3pm Friday for a female fighting with a male and pushing him into the street. Arriving officers reported seeing 57-year-old Curtis Seals of Taylor Drive pushing a woman to the ground and standing over her while screaming.

Witnesses told police Seals had been attacked by the woman before he went home and returned with a golf club and threatened her with it. Bystanders grabbed the club before Seals could use it, so he left again and returned with a large flower pot. Bystanders again prevented Seals from using it as a weapon against the woman. Police say Seals showed multiple signs of intoxication and could barely stand on his own.

Seals was arrested and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Public Intoxication.

University of Iowa Police dealt with Seals the previous night at the UI Hospitals and Clinics. Arrest records indicate that just after 8pm Thursday night a UIHC employee found Seals unconscious on the floor of his room in the ER. He woke up once the woman initiated a sternum rub, although he immediately yelled at her, “Get your f—ing hands off me!” before taking a swing at her. Seals was then restrained by other members of the UIHC staff, although he continued to be verbally aggressive. He was charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations.

If convicted on all charges stemming form this week’s incidents, Seals faces a maximum of 14 months in jail.

Seals has a history of stalking, public intoxication and violating no-contact orders.
