A tuition rate increase at the three state-run universities is now official, after the state Board of Regents unanimously approved the measure.

At the University of Iowa, undergraduates will see base tuition and mandatory fees rise by $336.50, while graduate students’s tuition and fees will go up nearly $400.00.

Iowa State student tuition rates vary from undergraduate, graduate, in-state and out-of-state categories. The Daily Iowan reports that both the UI and ISU are requesting different tuition rates for higher-cost undergraduate and graduate programs.

University of Northern Iowa students will see their tuitions rise between 1 and 1 ½ percent.

The Regents requested an $18 million increase from state legislators and an $8 million restoration of funds cut in the 2021 fiscal year, but in the 2021 session, the Legislature kept funding flat.

Regents President Mike Richards stressed the need for financial resources to provide quality education at an affordable price to students and their families.
