A North Liberty man has been taken into custody on a domestic assault warrant stemming from an incident last month.

Police say that 36-year-old Dominick Rice of Beaver Kreek Center was involved in a domestic assault. The victim arrived home just before 5:30pm June 25th when Rice got into an argument with her and hit her in the face. A witness told officers that Rice used an open hand and struck her from behind.

The woman reportedly said that she and Rice were recently in a relationship and that he frequently stayed at her residence. Police say she had visible swelling on her left eye.

Rice had fled the scene by the time officers arrived, and a warrant was requested for her arrest. He was taken into custody Sunday morning and charged with Domestic Abuse causing Injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail term of up to one year if convicted.

A no-contact order was requested between the two parties involved.
